Engine Room Recordings is pleased to announce the signing of the Washington DC five-piece Middle Distance Runner - a band cited by Paste magazine as "on the verge of something big" and heralded by SPIN as "insanely catchy." Engine Room is set to release the band's new album The Sun & Earth on October 20.

On the new recording, the band's second full-length album, Middle Distance Runner blends tuneful pop-inspired indie-rock with darker, heavier layered guitars that hover just beneath the surface.

Formed by four high school friends in 2005, Middle Distance Runner self-released their debut album, Plane in Flames in 2006 to critical and popular acclaim. A 2008 EP followed. Most recently, they released the 7" single "The Unbeliever" which will be included on the forthcoming The Sun & Earth. The stopmotion animation video for the track, created by Philadelphia based filmmaker Maxwell Sorenson garnered early exposure for the band on MTVu, The Tripwire, fuse.tv and more.
